Supported Accommodation

We provide supported accommodation for a maximum of 62 residents in 15 different properties, covering single men and men of all ages, gender and ethnicity and each being furnished to a high standard. Occupation is for a maximum of 12 months, during which time residents will have a dedicated support worker to help them achieve a greater degree of independence. All of the properties are regularly serviced by full time maintenance and domestic staff and there is a 24 hour, 7 days a week on call service. Five of the properties are owned by Coventry Cyrenians with the rest being rented from housing associations, private landlords and the City Council.

We have recently introduced a Move On service for a further 19 residents which is seen as an important stepping stone where the level of support is set at a lower level to reflect the extent to which the individual has progressed further along the road towards the ultimate goal of independent living.

Rough Sleeper’s Floating Support

This new service was commissioned by the Coventry City Council Supporting People team on 1st October 2009 with the objective of achieving a “sustained reduction in the numbers of those found to be sleeping rough in the city” (SP tender specification).

We provide an outreach-based contact service with rough sleepers by making regular city centre sweeps using intelligence on rough sleeping hotspots gathered from our own experience and that of other agencies including the police and CV One. The sweeps take place from 6.00-9.00 am Monday to Friday and are complemented by an out of hours emergency contact via a well publicised helpline.

The service deals with up to 20 rough sleepers at any time with the objective of directing them into the appropriate support services within seven working days. Continued support is provided to ensure clients make the most effective use of the housing related support available within the city. The ultimate aim is to introduce clients to the option of independent living including support to establish and maintain a tenancy.

Norton House - Coventry Day Centre for the Homeless

The Norton House Day Centre opened in May 1978 in response to a growing need in the Coventry area for a place where homeless and vulnerable people could access meals, drinks, washing and laundry facilities. Funding for the centre comes from a combination of public and private sources, including the Coventry PCT and Social Services.

In February 2008, Norton House merged with Coventry Cyrenians, an organisation with whom it had always worked very closely. There was immediately a significant investment in the building itself to upgrade the facilities available to clients and create a working environment for staff to deliver an enhanced range of services. The Rough Sleeper's services have been moved into Norton House providing easier access to potential clients using Norton House on a regular basis. Similar access is also available to the various agencies now operating surgeries from Norton House, such as JobCentre Plus, which are looking to target health, legal rights, training and employment.
