11th March 2020

Attended by Maria Struthers (Senior Housing Support Worker)

Very many thanks to the Balsall Common Methodist Church who have kindly donated food items for our residents in Coventry and Warwickshire.  For a number of years they have supported the Coventry Cyrenians at their Harvest Festival in October with the Scouts, Cubs and Beavers donating food along with the congregation.  On Sunday 9th February they decided to centre their weekly service around homelessness. We were able to discuss more openly the issues and struggles of homelessness and how this affects all of us and what we can do to help. After the service they met informally to discuss the following subjects:-

1) What does it feel like to see people on the streets, maybe begging?

2) Homelessness – What can we do about it?

3) Homelessness – What is being done? What is effective?

4)What are the causes of homelessness?

5) What does it feel like to be destitute?

These discussions evoked some brilliant ideas and showed that they had a really good awareness and insight into the difficulties faced by vulnerable people.
