13th January 2015

Cyrenians held their annual event on Christmas day, at the Methodist Central Hall, welcoming all that may be homeless, lonely, vulnerable, or would have gone without a Christmas dinner.  A huge thank you to over 50 Volunteers who gave up their Christmas day, arriving early to set up tables, with crackers and beautiful table decorations made by Shelagh Williams.  Special thanks to the chef, Steve McCormack who prepared all the vegetables, plus Joan Rennie, Mary Stephens (who have volunteered in the kitchen for many years) assisted by Michael & Sarah Law.  The Methodist Central Hall’s new Reverend Mark Rowland, worked very hard and even volunteered himself for whole day.

XMAS DAY 2014 3

Special thanks to Michael Wilson (pictured on the right) who donated clothes and co-ordinated the day for the second year running, Thomas & David Scarsbrook who have provided the music for the several years, and to Gemma Richens who provided entertainment by giving an outstanding singing performance, thoroughly enjoyed by guests and volunteers.

Feedback received from one of the guests:

“I am Sri Lanken, my religion is Islam, but today I have participated in this lunch and felt the kind hospitality.  As a temporary homeless person, I will spend my day here and night at the Queens Road Baptist Church.  I can understand the Christians helping people. Hats off to your humanity”
