CLOSURE OF STRATFORD UPON AVON FURNITURE SHOP

Last week we handed back the old Somerfield unit in Fountain Way Stratford Upon Avon, which we had been given rent free by the Landlords since June 2013.

We used the unit to sell larger items of furniture, clothes, records, books etc. and with the help of Selim (the shop manager) we were also able to renovate furniture in poor condition back into a saleable condition.

Having the unit has enabled us to raise our profile in Stratford, given us the opportunity to raise some money and crucially given some of our service users the experience of volunteering in the shop which has in-turn enabled at least one of them to move into paid employment.

We must offer our huge thanks to the agent (Vacant Space Management) for offering us this opportunity in the first place and also massive thanks to Selim, all of the volunteers and the service users who helped make this project such a success.

We are hoping to launch a similar project in Coventry in the near future and are still actively seeking alternative retail accommodation in Stratford Upon Avon so that we can continue to operate this valuable service for the community.
