Two pupils and a teacher, Mr Dave Shepherd, from John Gulson Primary School are pictured handing over the first consignment of donation bags as part of a joint project with leading homelessness charity, Coventry Cyrenians.  An estimated 600 bags of donated clothes, toys and books are expected to be collected by the pupils and sorted by volunteers from the fashion department at Coventry University for eventual sale in the charity’s Refreshed social enterprise retail unit, based in Far Gosford Street, Coventry.

Accepting the first donation bags are Bailey Swinhoe and Karandeep Gahir who first came to Cyrenians through the City Council’s Young People’s Placement Scheme and have now been taken on permanently.  The Windsor’s coffee bar and Refreshed retail unit, opened in November 2012 and nearly 50 young, unemployed people have benefitted from work experience and training opportunities in that time.  Cyrenians are keen to attract more volunteers and can be contacted on volunteering@coventrycyrenians.org
