LONG SERVICE VOLUNTEER AWARDS 2019

In June we held an awards ceremony for our Long Service Volunteers who have been volunteering on a regular basis for around 2 years or more. We are extremely grateful for the time and committment they have given to Cyrenians.

It was a lovely afternoon held at Windsor's & Refreshed. Volunteers, staff and even retired staff attended (who didn't want to miss out on the tasty buffet provided by Jenny (Shop Manager).

Paul Massey

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Shop Assistant since March 2017. Paul mainly works in the emporium but not exclusively, he also helps out from time to time in refreshed and also does some deliveries for the shop. Paul has an eye for antiques (however weird and wonderful) so he is able to build a good rapport with customers who are looking for something different. Paul is always doing little jobs for staff and customers without asking for anything in return and this doesn’t go unnoticed by us all. The whole team have a real soft spot for him, he is a real gem… (Apart from his singing that is!!!)

Rachel Powers

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a hairdresser since April 2017. Rachel is a self-employed hairdresser who works at the Barber Shop 'Dashing Blades' in Fargo Village.  She wanted to offer her services for free to any of our clients who are homeless to help them feel better about themselves and improve their self-esteem and appearance for i.e. a housing/job interview, which she most certainly has achieved and has built up a rapport with our clients over the last 2 years who look forward to having their hair done & a chat with Rachel.

Paul Edwards

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Warehouse & Drivers Assistant since April 2017. Paul was a resident in our hostels until we helped him move on to his own accommodation.  He wanted to give something back and has gone beyond the call of duty, putting in extra days to keep the warehouse clean & organised and helping to collect heavy furniture donations every week.  He has also taken part in our other charity activities, i.e. workshops & interviews. Paul is always cheerful and loves helping other people.

Selena James

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Service Support Assistant since October 2017, on our reception desk at Head Office, dealing with members of the public and some tricky clients! Selena has helped to train several new volunteers over the years. Selena has been committed with her attendance and is a very reliable member of the team.

Nicola Phipps

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Shop Assistant since November 2017, either in Refreshed, rotating stock and replenishing, but also working on the till or our furniture emporium helping customers to make that all important purchase. Nicky is a valued member of our team and can always be relied on to help out where she is needed.

Tracy Villiers

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Service Support Assistant since November 2017. Following her own experiences of homelessness Tracy wanted to help people in a similar situation. She has been committed with her attendance and is a very reliable member of the team. She has helped to train new volunteers and taken on extra shifts to cover absences.

Shukry

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Service Support Assistant since November 2017. Shukry wanted to gain work experience and confidence so began as a Service Support Assistant, then Shop Assistant and has now taken on the role of Volunteer Volunteer Co-ordinator and is doing a great job helping to recruit more volunteers.

Stephen Gichuki

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Driver since December 2017. Around his own job hours, Stephen has been picking up donations of furniture, often heavy, and making deliveries every week for over 2 years. He has never let us down and we are very lucky to have him on board.

Jasvinder Kaur

Volunteering for Cyrenians as a Service Support Assistant since February 2018. Jas has been   committed and always willing to help with whatever jobs need doing, she is a valuable member of the team, always smiling and a joy to have around!!
