ORBIT'S BRIAN GRIFFITHS AWARD

 

The Brian Griffiths Award has been established in memory of the late Brian Griffiths,  a former Orbit Board member and Chartered Institute of Housing President, who dedicated his life to helping others. The award gives us an opportunity to support our  customers to further develop their aspiration, inspiration and achievement. 

The award recognises achievements in two categories: 

Positive Destination and Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.

One of this year’s winners, Pip Geraghty, was recently presented with his award by David Wilson of Coventry Cyrenians, who nominated Pip for the award.

Pip came to volunteer for the Cyrenians when he was a client of their floating support service in 2013/14. Over the years he has volunteered mainly as a van driver, collecting donated items and delivering items to service users. Pip helped set up their charity shop and with posting and collecting donation bags for the shop.  He has also undertaken house and garden clearances including properties owned by Orbit and managed by Cyrenians.

 When asked why he had nominated Pip for the Award, David said: “Pip is always keen and happy to help. He represents our organisation to donors and service users in a positive and upbeat manner and leaves a lasting impression on the people he meets whilst undertaking his duties. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him and he presents a great example to other volunteers.  He is well liked by staff service users and customers alike. “

Upon receiving his Award, Pip said: “I was in a really bad place when the Cyrenians picked me up. They have provided me with fantastic support over the years and I just wanted to repay this. By volunteering for the Cyrenians I feel that I am giving something back.”

Pip asked that his Award is used to purchase DIY equipment to enable him to continue with his volunteering role but also to offer his services to friends and family.

The award gives Orbit an opportunity to support their customers.
